The problem we're solving

Sri Lanka has more than a century of reported case law, but almost none of it is usable the way a modern lawyer needs to work. Research that should take minutes takes hours, and the AI tools that promise to help have never read Sri Lankan law.

Today

  • Sri Lankan judgments sit in scanned law reports going back over a century — searchable only if you already know the case name.
  • General AI tools answer Sri Lankan legal questions with foreign law, or invent case names and citations outright.
  • Court documents follow strict local formats, and most are drafted in Sinhala.
  • Finding which cases have interpreted a statutory provision means working through printed indexes, or already knowing them.
  • Every authority cited in a draft has to be verified by hand, one at a time.
  • Law students have past papers, but no way to get their answers marked outside a classroom.

With LawMate.lk

  • Keyword and semantic search across the full corpus — New Law Reports, Sri Lanka Law Reports and Ceylon Weekly Reporter — re-ranked so the closest authority comes first.
  • Every citation is drawn from a judgment actually retrieved from the corpus. Where the law is uncertain, the draft flags it for the attorney instead of inventing a case.
  • Drafting follows real filed precedents and produces court-ready documents in English, Sinhala or Tamil, exportable to Word or PDF with the script intact.
  • Each statute section lists the cases that have cited it, newest first, so a provision can be read together with how the courts have applied it.
  • Upload a judgment or contract and question it directly — answers stay anchored to that document rather than to the model's general knowledge.
  • Students get AI-marked answers with per-question feedback, plus timed mock sittings that mirror the real exam.

What it does

Six tools that cover the working day of a Sri Lankan lawyer — from finding authority to filing the document.

Precedent retrieval

Hybrid keyword and semantic search across every indexed judgment, re-ranked by a cross-encoder so the most relevant authority surfaces first — not merely the closest wording.

Legal drafting

Guided intake produces court-ready plaints, answers, petitions, objections and affidavits across 90+ document types, modelled on real filed precedents and written in English, Sinhala or Tamil.

Statute explainer

Consolidated acts section by section, each with a plain-language explanation and the cases that have cited it — so a provision can be read alongside how the courts have applied it.

Document analyser

Upload a judgment or contract and get a structured summary, then question it directly. Answers stay anchored to the document rather than to the model's general knowledge.

Exam preparation

Past papers, AI-marked answers with per-question feedback, and timed mock exams that mirror the real sitting — built for Sri Lanka Law College candidates.

Inheritance calculator

Computes shares under the applicable succession rules, with the reasoning shown so it can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Who it's for

Practising lawyers

Attorneys-at-Law in litigation and advisory practice who need authority they can cite and drafts they can file — with the time spent on research cut from hours to minutes.

Law students

Sri Lanka Law College and university candidates preparing for Preliminary, Intermediate and Final examinations, using past papers, AI-marked answers and timed mock sittings.
